The Echo Trail runs northwest out of Ely and through the boreal forest of northern Minnesota and the BWCA towards Crane Lake. Unlike the small high-tech bags hanging on many bikes, the Echo will take all your tools, extra tubes and repair kit, and still leave room for lunch and a windbreaker.
A slender sleeve pocket inside holds a map, your wallet, or directions to your friends cabin near Lake Jeanette. There are two leather attachment slots on top that let you use an old bootlace to tie on a rolled-up rain jacket, or last weeks Sunday NY Times.
