What is William “Buffalo Bill” Cody’s connection to Duluth? His sister, Helen Cody Wetmore, lived in the “Zenith City” in a mansion called Codyview. At her request Colonel Cody put on his traveling Wild West Show in Duluth in 1896. The event drew thousands of spectators. On a friendly family wager, Buffalo Bill bet his sister a fur coat against a silk hat that the tiny town of North Platte, Nebraska would draw more people. Amazingly, it topped Duluth by several thousand folks and he got himself a new silk hat.
