Arrowhead Trail Rolltop Pack

3.50 LBS

Scenario 1: You start your frosty morning bike commute wearing your fleece, wind shell, gloves and hat (Arrowhead Trail Rolltop cinched down to 18-inch height). But the day warms up, and on the way home you need to stow all that stuff plus more work from the office…Aargh! (Arrowhead Trail Rolltop expanded to 27-inch height…and you can still buckle the flap straps!). Scenario 2: (substitute "day hike in the Adirondacks"). Scenario 3: (substitute "trek to campus")…You get the idea.

The simple adaptability of the Arrowhead Rolltop makes carrying a small bundle, or a large load, a breeze. If you’re only carrying a little bit, roll the 18 oz. waxed canvas top all the way down and cinch the leather straps to the bag. Need more space? Unroll the top. The long, harness leather straps and extended top allow expanded capacity. Waxed canvas is water resistant, and when matched with a rolled top it is especially weather tight. There’s a loop for a blinking bike light, along with lash squares to tie stuff on… it’s a waxed canvas commuter pack that’s made in Duluth and really hauls!

Available in two sizes (13" and 15" width) and two pocket layouts (the ECO's add 2-in-1 pockets on the outside, (think water bottle pockets) and internal sleeves (think laptop or hydration bladder). Read on below for more specifics.

As soon as the pack arrived, I had left back to Colorado from Utah to go be with my family. I was able to literally pack over a weeks worth of clothes in this bag. I truly didn’t realize how big it was until it was full. 4 pairs of pants, 4 t-shirts, 3 long sleeved under shirts, 4 plaids, a ton of socks and underwear, my wash bag, something cozy to sleep in and a sweater along with a blanket attached to the outside of the bag. I knew the weather was going to change a few times during the drive, so I tossed it in the bed of my truck to test the waterproofing out. It took its first beating and sure enough it was completely waterproof. My lady and I use the bag for groceries as well and wow, we can fit damn near everything we get at the store. I’ve never been so proud of a bag before in my life and the way it looks is even better!
I am 5” 6” 165lbs muscular. I have always had thick traps and fairly broad shoulders so most of my bag straps fall off and it is annoying especially with out a cross strap to hold it tight. By the way the bag is designed, for some reason it’s the first one that stays on my shoulders in the same spot no matter what it is I’m doing. Thank you for creating such an amazing bag and one that I truly get compliments all the time on. I will never buy another bag again unless it’s another type of Frost River or for my family members!

I love this pack. It takes me back to the sort of rucks we used when I was a boy. Simple, rugged, and efficient. Since I got it this has accompanied me on hikes and even on motorcycle rides (strapped to a rack). Looks as good on the Softail as it does on yer back.

I wanted an old school pack that could handle enough for a few days, and this is it. I’ve had high tech packs galore, but there’s nothing that makes them better than this. I love this pack!

I absolutely love this bag, but noticed one of the holes on the leather straps that go over the top was not punched through. I didn't notice this until it was needed in the trail

    Greatest pack ever

This is the only backpack you will ever need. I have used this bag regularly over the past 4 years. I commute in NYC by bicycle and it is my daily bag. It has traveled the world as a camping pack, up mountains, through woods, to the beach. It is lightweight, fits a ton of stuff and can handle weight well. Initially I was skeptical of the straps but boy was I wrong .. they are AWESOME! They distribute weight really well .. and I've overloaded the pack with 40+ pounds of gear and carried it up 65-70 degree inclines. You'll feel the weight eventually, but carrying 40+ pounds on your back all day you will feel it worse with another bag. I cannot recommend this pack enough... After logging over 50,000 miles with this on my back, through all kinds of weather and terrain, I can say you will never need another bag. AND... It will fit under the seat of an airplane and can be used for carry on. The bag only seems expensive... The quality and craftsmanship is next level.
Do yourself a favor and buy one. And it's made in the USA!

    Arrowhead Trail Rolltop Pack

Let's just start by acknowledging this is a tank. Most of you, like me, aren't hanging around Duluth, so won't have a chance to see these in person before shelling out the coin, so I want this to be helpful.

First, I ordered all the upgrades - the larger pack, with the pockets, with the leather straps. I've done a lot of hiking/packing and have a rep for being into bags, having previously had a couple of packs custom made. I've now used this one to carry clothes for a weekend in a hotel, and for a day hike. Plenty of room in both cases. For the hike I filled it with unnecessarily heavy items to get a feel for the carry.

This is significantly larger than I'd pictured. I probably would have been happy with the smaller version. You can always NOT fill the bag, right? (not me, apparently.) The material is exceptionally strong, and the seams all very well done. The side pouches are well made and plenty large for a water bottle. I love both the look and function of the rolltop - allowing the pack to become the size needed for a given load. There is no getting around it that heavier packs carry better over time when there is a load-bearing hip belt. I wish the shoulder straps (remember, I got the upgraded leather) were a bit wider to disburse the weight a bit better. I wonder if the standard issue straps are wider? That said, these straps did the task and I carried the overloaded pack for a few hours - no bruising. The ride felt secure.

If you want a more technical, and lighter, pack there are plenty of them out there. None of them look this cool. This will last a lifetime.

    Excellent pack

This pack was a pleasant surprise. It is light, well built and most definitely beautiful. I am now considering buying the Arrowhead rolltop Eco (with additional side pockets) if Frost River can customize it by adding a hip belt. Excellent products.

    Arrowhead Trail Rolltop Pack

Using every cubic inch, this pack accompanied me up and down the Queensland coast for 6 joyous weeks. I had many offers to buy it, and threats to steal it when I handed it off to the crew on a dive boat or tour bus. Even when it barely rolls, it is securely closed against incoming water.
