The two year anniversary party of the Bent Paddle Brewing Co. shakes down May 30, 2015. There’ll be beer, bands, food, and revelry outdoors in the West End. All the flagship favorite Bent Paddle brews will be there along with a big batch of special beers and casks of ale. The party is 2-8 pm across from Frost River in Duluth. Tickets at the gate.
The Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum opens its doors and its shop to visitors for the summer season and puts on a canoe and wooden boat show on the streets of Spooner Wisconsin. There’s food, music, refreshments, and lots of boats to celebrate Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Day on May 23rd, 2015. We’ll be there with a slug of Canoe Packs and maybe a boat or two. Stop by to check out all shapes and sizes of canoes and kick off the start of summer with a bunch of great people and beautiful boats.
20th annual Walleye tournament on Minnesota’s Island Lake, May 30, 2015. Fishing for a cure for ALS. Anglers collect donations and spend a day on the water trying to win prizes for catching walleye and bass. Frost River is building incentive prizes for anglers casting for a cause. Good fishing to all involved!
“Celebrate the power of wilderness and the value of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area”
Three bicycle riders, trailering a canoe across Minnesota work to raise awareness of the negative impacts sulfide mining will have on Canoe Country and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Follow along as the they travel 725 miles from Winona to Ely. Meet the riders along the way and sign the petition canoe. They’ll make a stop in our neighborhood at Bent Paddle Brewing Co. in Duluth on May 5, 2015.

The first ever Boundary Waters Expo features speakers and seminars, demos, campfires, food, and fun for the whole family. It’s all outside, right on the edge of the Boundary Waters. We’ll have a booth with a bunch of canoe packs to try, maybe do some demonstrations, and have some fun in canoe country. There’ll be a bunch of other vendors and canoe characters around too. The Gunflint Trail is a great area for a road trip… here’s an excuse to get up there.

The bi-annual beer and gear event under the bigtop at Midwest Mountaineering is free and full of fun! New this year… Mark will be giving a presentation on traditional and high tech canoe packs. Catch him at 10:30 on Saturday nearby at the U of Minnesota campus. Kevin Callan, “The Happy Camper” will be in the Frost River booth signing copies of his new book at 12:30 Saturday. Along with Mark and Kevin, there are a bunch of other speakers, seminars, paddling demos, a canoe and kayak auction, outfitters and resort owners… and a bunch of great gear! Come on over, grab lunch and a Beer (Bent Paddle Brewing Co. is a sponsor, so it’ll be a tasty beer), and stop by the Frost River booth to say “Hi!”.
The second annual American Field gathering is September 28th & 29th in Boston’s South Side. The two day event runs from 10am to 6pm, is free and open to the public. It showcases American brands that sell their Made in USA products. When we were there last year there was a great, fun atmosphere with food, music, and a marvelous collection of products that are rarely available all in one place. “Ball & Buck”, the sponsor of the event touts that “If every consumer spent just 5% more on USA made goods, it would create nearly 1,000,000 USA jobs and assist in the building of the US economy.” We will be there doing our part, working together to strengthen our American economy. Join us in the new revolution of American Manufacturing.
This year we are sponsoring and will be taking part in The ALS Walleye Tournament on Minnesota’s Island Lake. The tournament works to raise funds and awareness to fight ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. If you would like to donate, volunteer, or fish in the tournament contact the MN/ND/SD ALS Association. The Tournament takes place Saturday June first 2013 on Island Lake north of Duluth MN. Join us for fishing and fighting for a cure for ALS.
Join us on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend for a celebration of canoeing in Spooner Wisconsin. The Canoe Heritage Museum works to preserve and restore wooden canoes. This is the third year of the Canoe and Wooden Boat Show held in conjunction with Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Day on Saturday May 25, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM outside of the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum at312 N Front St in Spooner WI.
Bring your own wooden boat to display (it’s free!) or come over and check out other people’s canoes. It’s a free event and a great way to kick off paddling season in the north. There’s a beer garden, live music, the canoe shop will be open for tours, and the exhibit hall will have an open house.
Northland College in Ashland Wisconsin is hosting Wildness Week April 3-5, 2013. There will be readings and films, speakers and slideshows, all showcasing adventure and appreciation of nature especially while traveling by canoe. Writer, adventurer, teacher, administrator, and environmentalist Sigurd Olson studied at Northland College. The college keeps his message of nature stewardship alive with the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute.We have been invited to bring some packs over and chat about Frost River, we appreciate the opportunity and hope to see you there!
