We’re headed to Minneapolis for another Outdoor Adventure Expo at Midwest Mountaineering! We’ll be bringing a wide assortment of our Reliable Softgoods – from Canoe Packs and Day Packs to Bike Bags and Shoulder Bags – and will be there all weekend. It’s a one stop shop for gear, wanderlust and planning. There’ll be everything from new and old gear from bits and bobs, to boats and tents, not to mention talks from experts in travel, adventures, camping and expeditions. The show is open 4/22 Friday 2–9:30, 4/23 Saturday 9–6:30, 4/24 Sunday 10–5

Earth Day Celebration


Friday April 22, 2016 4-7pm at the Frost River shop at 1910 West Superior Street in Duluth, MN

We’re throwing an Earth Day Party and you’re invited! The doors are staying open late Friday evening at Frost River, feel free to browse the store and enjoy food, fun, and prizes.

There’ll be ham and cheese croissants from Duluth’s Best Bread for sale, Love Creamery’s ice cream cart will be serving their “heavenly handcrafted ice cream” in the store, local author Robert Lillegard will be signing copies of the newest edition of the Duluth Grill Cook Book II. Stop in and spin our prize wheel and win some fun prizes. It’s going to be great evening celebrating the Earth and handcrafted local wares. It’s a great way to start an Earth Day weekend, give yourself a good start to do something good for the Earth this weekend!

A three day Christmas festival with shopping and fun for the whole family! The Excelsior Christkindlsmarkt offers a traditional German Christmas experience placed in a open air market near Minneapolis, MN on Thanksgiving Weekend, November 27th – 29th. There are parades, gifts, great things to eat, a Kinderworld for the kids, and a beer garden for the grown-ups. We’ll be there with a load of packs and bags, ready for a fun filled weekend! It’s an event you won’t want to miss.

Duluth Pop-Down at Askov Finlayson

Excited to bring some Duluth Pop-Down excitement to Askov Finlayson in Minneapolis.

We’re excited to be a part of a friendly Duluth caravan “popping down” to Askov Finlayson in Minneapolis on November 11th for an evening of books, beer, cocktails, music, monograms, and probably some bubble hockey in the big city. Our friends at Askov Finlayson are graciously opening the doors of their newly renovated flagship store in the historic North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis to share some to the great stuff being made up here in the North. The party runs 5-7 pm Wednesday Nov. 11th at Askov Finlayson – 204 North First Street Minneapolis, Minnesota 55401.

Bent Paddle Brewing Co. and Vikre Distillery will be there with refreshments, Duluth Mayor Don Ness will have his new book, “Hillsider”. Musician and author Teague Alexy will perform and sign copies of his book as well. It’s gonna be fun! The courtyard will be open so bring along a couple extra layers and enjoy some of Duluth, Minnesota’s best!


Bent Paddle Brewing Co. Festiversary


The two year anniversary party of the Bent Paddle Brewing Co. shakes down May 30, 2015. There’ll be beer, bands, food, and revelry outdoors in the West End. All the flagship favorite Bent Paddle brews will be there along with a big batch of special beers and casks of ale. The party is 2-8 pm across from Frost River in Duluth. Tickets at the gate.

canoe-museum-4in (1)The Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum opens its doors and its shop to visitors for the summer season and puts on a canoe and wooden boat show on the streets of Spooner Wisconsin. There’s food, music, refreshments, and lots of boats to celebrate Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Day on May 23rd, 2015. We’ll be there with a slug of Canoe Packs and maybe a boat or two. Stop by to check out all shapes and sizes of canoes and kick off the start of summer with a bunch of great people and beautiful boats.

20th annual Walleye tournament on Minnesota’s Island Lake, May 30, 2015. Fishing for a cure for ALS. Anglers collect donations and spend a day on the water trying to win prizes for catching walleye and bass. Frost River is building incentive prizes for anglers casting for a cause. Good fishing to all involved!

Three bicycle riders, trailering a canoe across Minnesota work to raise awareness of the negative impacts sulfide mining will have on Canoe Country and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Follow along as the they travel 725 miles from Winona to Ely. Meet the riders along the way and sign the petition canoe. They’ll make a stop in our neighborhood at Bent Paddle Brewing Co. in Duluth on May 5, 2015.

The first ever Boundary Waters Expo features speakers and seminars, demos, campfires, food, and fun for the whole family. It’s all outside, right on the edge of the Boundary Waters. We’ll have a booth with a bunch of canoe packs to try, maybe do some demonstrations, and have some fun in canoe country. There’ll be a bunch of other vendors and canoe characters around too. The Gunflint Trail is a great area for a road trip… here’s an excuse to get up there.

The bi-annual beer and gear event under the bigtop at Midwest Mountaineering is free and full of fun! New this year… Mark will be giving a presentation on traditional and high tech canoe packs. Catch him at 10:30 on Saturday nearby at the U of Minnesota campus. Kevin Callan, “The Happy Camper” will be in the Frost River booth signing copies of his new book at 12:30 Saturday. Along with Mark and Kevin, there are a bunch of other speakers, seminars, paddling demos, a canoe and kayak auction, outfitters and resort owners… and a bunch of great gear! Come on over, grab lunch and a Beer (Bent Paddle Brewing Co. is a sponsor, so it’ll be a tasty beer), and stop by the Frost River booth to say “Hi!”.
