Description

Patterned after the old baker style cook tent, our Campfire tent is: white, roomy, canvas floored, screened in half, is habitable during all four seasons, has LOTS of ties (everywhere where there should be a tie... there is), durable, pitched solid once the guy lines are in place, tall at one end- short at the other, great in the late fall with the end cover attached and a fire going in a woodstove, reliable, made by Americans in Duluth, Minnesota... it's a great tent. Price is for the tent alone, if you have poles or wish to make them on site that's fine... but we don't include poles with the tents, we offer a Pole Package separately. The same for the EndCover, we are happy to make one for you, but we don't include it as standard equipment on each tent.

Read up on how our Campfire Tent fared on a 2,000 kilometer expedition of the Yukon River in our Field Journal. --Please Note-- These are completely made by hand and we currently build the tents, tarps, end covers, and lean-to's to order. When you get your new tent, set it up on a clean, protected spot. Make sure its right for you before you use it in the wilds. We won't accept a return of a dirty tent. Once you decide you love it, wet it down and let it completely dry to season the fabric and seams. It will be much more water-resistant once its been soaked and dried. Enjoy! There is something special about spending time in a canvas shelter, especially one with a woodstove.

Exactly What I Wanted

I'm a canoe camper and until recently I have only tarp or hammock camped. Though I do like those lighter weight options, my priorities have shifted to making sure my family is comfortable and giving them more of a 'living outdoors' experience rather than just simply camping.
I was extremely impressed by the fulfillment time. I had anticipated a fairly long wait since these tents are made to order and, to my mind, are fairly difficult to make. It was a matter of days before I saw that the order had been shipped.
I set it up in the back yard as soon as I received it. The quality of this handmade tent is second to none. It's very easy to set up and not so heavy that it can't be easily portaged. With the addition of the end cover with the stove jack, I now have a comfortable option for winter camping with my family rather than roughing it.
My only complaint is that the optional pole kit isn't as sturdy as I would have hoped. The spring pins that hold the telescoping poles at the desired length do not protrude far enough to securely hold and have a tendency to pop free allowing the poles to retract.
All in all, I am extremely happy with this purchase and look forward to many trips far afield.
Update: I took the tent out on a proper winter camping trip. Temperatures hovered around 6°F and it was quite windy. The stove kept us in t-shirts and the tent kept the wind out. The wind didn't cause any structural issues whatsoever, nor did the couple inches of snow overnight. I sincerely couldn't be happier!

Campfire tent. Two person.

Unboxed it. Happy with quality so far. Will not formally use it until a week long camping trip in Sept in White mountains. Will send proper review, with pictures.

Great tent

I first learned about campfire tents 30 years ago when I read Bill Mason's Path of the Paddle. I finally bought mine 3 years ago. I love it. I've camped in it pouring rain at least 4 times and not a single drop inside. Some people laugh when they see I'm not using some ultra-modern tent but they stop when it rains and I sit under the front flap enjoying the rain. I only wish the sack had shoulder straps for easier carrying.

Campfire Tent

I have only had the opportunity to use this tent once since I purchased it and it is absolutely great. .There is not one things bad to say about this American made tent. The quality is always spot on for Frost River and looking forward to using it more. My winter camping trip is not far off and am going to use it. It would take a Jack Hammer to get the smile off my face and absolutely loving this purchase.
