Cliff Jacobson Signature Pack

The premium leather, water resistant waxed canvas, and solid brass hardware make up this unique and resilient pack. This box style canoe pack is designed with help from outdoor writer, wilderness traveler, and Eagle Scout, Cliff Jacobson and laid out with helpful features designed to haul your gear through the lakes of canoe country or the wilds of your everyday. This is a daypack, meant to go light and fast or supplement another larger pack for a full camping rig. It serves well as a school or travel backpack, too. We build them by hand in Duluth, from a lighter weight 10.10 oz waxed canvas that we get from the same supplier as our heavier 18oz. It's a tighter weave fabric that wears tough, but carries light. You get the choice of Field Tan or Hunter Orange waxed canvas. We regularly build the Field Tan, but may have to build a Hunter Orange pack from the ground up if high visibility is on your list. The Cliff Jacobson backpack is lighter than, but similarly laid out to it's older "cousin" the Nessmuk Pack. The top flap is longer on the Cliff Jacobson Signature Pack, the inside zippered pocket is bigger, the grab handle sits by the backstraps, and the 2-in-1 side pockets are both the same on each side (the Nessmuk has two small pockets on one side and the larger on the other. Both packs share the same 2.25" cotton, pistol-belt web backstraps that connect at the bottom of the pack. Need something larger? Take a look at the Woodsman or Timber Cruiser Jr.

    Good … but

I’ve had this pack for a couple years now. The style, shape, storage everything is great. My only disappointment is the canvas it is made of. It’s too thin and flimsy. It has no body to it and for a small pack like this, using the regular thick canvas would make this 100 times better. If it was to be remade in thick canvas like my isle royale I would definitely buy another one.

I really love this pack. It's my second one. (I bought one around ten years ago, and gave it to a relative for her trip around the world.). Meanwhile I have been using my Sojourn pack; which I also love. Anyway, this pack is a lovely design (Thank you Nessmuk and Cliff) that is beautifully executed. I love my new one even more than my old one. Don't worry about the lighter fabric; this is plenty tough. The stitching is perfect throughout. It rides great. Hold a bit more than you probably think.

My new pack arrived today and I couldn't be more impressed or happier with it. The quality is second to none and it is everything I was hoping for. While I haven't had a chance to take it out in the woods yet, I have transferred my gear to it to test the list out and feel on my back. I seldom carry more than 20 lbs if I can help it and this pack is able to easily handle my gear with plenty of room still available if I wanted to add a few things. It is not too large either. Great product folks. Stay well .

Treated myself to a new pack for 2021 I decided on the Cliff Jacobsen signature pack. I could not be more happy with the quality and configuration of this pack. I've taken it on a few outings now and it carries extremely comfortable and has the perfect spot for everything I need. There is nothing like the combo of waxed canvas and leather!

For many years I have been using the average big box store generic packs. Lots of pockets, but none quite the right size. Plus the fit and feel was never right. I did my research and my choices came down to this Cliff Jacobson pack and the Nessmuk pack.I had a couple of specific questions that I submitted to the Frost River staff and was very pleased with the speed of their response. Based on their answers I went with the Cliff Jacobson model. I had been concerned with it being made out of lighter canvas. When I got my pack I found the weight of the material was PLENTY strong for my needs. The first time out proved that the fit and feel were just what I had been looking for. I like that it is a simple design that has plenty of room to handle various items based on the specific outing requirements. I especially like the slip sleeves behind the side pockets. I had the sternum strap added to stabilize the pack when XC skiing so I have not gotten to try it yet. I am confident it will work this winter. I was pleased to see that this strap can be unfastened when not need so not to be in the way. Definitely a very well thought out , designed, and constructed pack.

This pack is exactly what I wanted. I'm a small framed woman (130, 5 ft. 3 in) and it fits me perfectly. I have a hard time finding "bushcraft" bags that actually fit me. I've owned the Isle Royal Jr. but had to sell it because it was too big for my frame, and the leather straps dug into my shoulders. The webbing straps on this pack are much more comfortable. In my opinion this bag is the perfect synthesis of materials and comfort.

Quality made product. Stitching is strong and tight. My only suggestion for improvement would be to attach a large accessory pocket on the back and also a hatchet loop. The large side pockets are a wonderful asset.

Awesome Day Pack for Canoe Trips

Posted by Avid Outdoorsy Guy on Aug 9th 2019

I've used this pack on 2 back country canoe trips in the Canadian wilderness and so far I'm definitely impressed. The quality and durability of the fabric is superb and I've had no issues with water seeping through at all. In my opinion this is a perfect option for a canoe trip day pack and I am so glad I chose it.
