Frost River Wood Craft Axe

The Frost River Wood Craft Axes are made to be used by our friends at Council Tool. Commonly called their Wood-Craft Pack Axes, when these get Henry the Frost River Caribou on the handle and are fixed with the Frost River Bridle Axe Sheath, they become the Frost River Wood Craft Axe. We offer two lengths of handle, both with the same 2lb head. Ships with the proud Frost River laser engraving on the handle, a handy manual from Council Tool detailing axe care and history and our premium Boreal Axe Sheath, hand-built from harness leather, complete with hand-pound harness rivets and solid brass snap for a durable, secure fit to protect your edge, the things you carry it in, and yourself! Though they would do well displayed above a mantle, these are not wispy wall hangers, they’re rugged, robust, and built to last. With the longer 24” handle, the Wood Craft Axe is a full step up from the 3/4 axe/hatchet hybrid and capable of more work than a mere hatchet could hope to take on. The 19” handle allows better portability in a pack like our Isle Royale Jr. or Mini or in a compact canoe camp kit. Since they both share the same sturdy 2lb head, they both offer similar power and sheaths are cross-compatible. The folks at Council Tool have been building tools in the USA to get the job done since 1886. These axes are built right, 100% in the USA and offer a winning combination of portability and usability. 130 years of American axe crafting experience go into the Wood Craft line. These are sharp right out of the box, made of US premium 5160 steel and US premium Hickory handles. Lifetime warranty from Council Tool on the steel axe heads. All are branded with Frost River logo on the premium hickory handle. Ships with a Frost River handmade harness leather sheath. Keep the Wood Craft Axe, and other edged tools, sharp with our Arctic Fox Sharpening Puck, or haul your own puck with our Buckskin Drawstring Pouch or Canvas Belt Pouch, all made in the USA. Utility with just the right heft, an elegant tool - See the axe in action here. Note: When sheathing your Wood Craft Axe, place it heel (bottom corner) first into the sheath, and seat the heel, before sliding the toe (top corner) of the axe into the sheath. Secure using the brass snap.

    Amazing Axe!

I’ve been using this axe for the last year and it is a well made and quality axe! It’s comes razor sharp and has stayed sharp. I have the 19” model and I find it splits wood better than my small forest axe and is as solid as any GB axe I’ve used!

    Great axe. Good value.

I've been using the Council Woodcraft Pack axe for a little while now and I must say, this is a great axe for the price. If you are considering a GB of similar weight and style, don't spend all that extra money. This axe will give you everything you need. The 19" model is an easy to pack workhorse. The hardened poll allows for increased versatility and the 25° flat grind makes this axe cut more like a knife. It boasts more precision than any axe I've used to date. This is an incredible axe and it is American made, which is always a great feature!

The Only Wood Craft Axe made in the U.S.A.

I own both tbe 19" and 24" versions of this axe. I have taken both through its paces and then some, both took the abuse well and never loosened up, nor lost its edge. Council has taken the classic carved shape and put it to use for camp building chores.

Used my 19" hafted version for over a year now and has never let me down. Used for professional woodland management tasks, hedgelaying coppicing and carving. It does them all. Great tool.
