We’ve had one of these amazing tents for many years. We got the 4 person model and it’s pure luxury for 2 people. We have a bunch of other tents but this is our go-to tent. The sleeping area is roomy and the “covered porch” area is great for cooking, dressing or sitting in a camp chair watching the sunset. We spent a night in it on top of a mountain in Arkansas. After dark a storm rolled in with 40 - 50mph winds. The one other camper there had a nylon dome tent that collapsed in the wind half way thru the night. Our Campfire tent was perfectly fine. In the morning they looked miserable. They threw their nylon tent in a garbage bag and left to get an hotel. We stayed for 3 more days in canvas comfort. Another time we flew into a backcountry strip and camped there. The next day a husband and wife flew there in a SuperCub. They walked over to say hi and on the way we could hear the wife say to her husband in an hushed envious tone “look honey, they have a canvas tent!”. While we talked they said there were tired of staying in a small nylon tent and asked about our tent because after looking at it they were gonna order one. Downsides: It is a little bulky (not really a backpacking tent) and it isn’t lightweight but for canoe - car - aircraft camping it is the absolute best, most comfortable tent bar none. In rainy or cold tent bound weather it’s so nice to have the enclosed “porch” area. If you are searching for a lifelong investment in functionality & camping luxury this is as good as it gets.
Tent is fine but the shipping was unacceptable. Over $400 to ship a 35 lb package
I ripped my Achilles tendon before I got the chance to go hunting with the tent. But I researched the tent for almost 3 years before I bought it. I’m sure it’s exactly what I expected. Maybe I’ll review it again in a year, once I get the chance to use it
I'm a canoe camper and until recently I have only tarp or hammock camped. Though I do like those lighter weight options, my priorities have shifted to making sure my family is comfortable and giving them more of a 'living outdoors' experience rather than just simply camping.
I was extremely impressed by the fulfillment time. I had anticipated a fairly long wait since these tents are made to order and, to my mind, are fairly difficult to make. It was a matter of days before I saw that the order had been shipped.
I set it up in the back yard as soon as I received it. The quality of this handmade tent is second to none. It's very easy to set up and not so heavy that it can't be easily portaged. With the addition of the end cover with the stove jack, I now have a comfortable option for winter camping with my family rather than roughing it.
My only complaint is that the optional pole kit isn't as sturdy as I would have hoped. The spring pins that hold the telescoping poles at the desired length do not protrude far enough to securely hold and have a tendency to pop free allowing the poles to retract.
All in all, I am extremely happy with this purchase and look forward to many trips far afield.
Update: I took the tent out on a proper winter camping trip. Temperatures hovered around 6°F and it was quite windy. The stove kept us in t-shirts and the tent kept the wind out. The wind didn't cause any structural issues whatsoever, nor did the couple inches of snow overnight. I sincerely couldn't be happier!
Unboxed it. Happy with quality so far. Will not formally use it until a week long camping trip in Sept in White mountains. Will send proper review, with pictures.
