Summit Boulder Jct.

Compression is the key to the Boulder Junction Pack. It’s a fairly tall pack that holds a lot and really benefits from the cinched sides that the brass rings and laced cord provide. We got valuable input from the adventurers at Camp Manito-wish in Boulder Junction Wisconsin that helped transform our versatile Summit Pack into a capable and adaptable back pack that will work equally well with small, light loads, and big, heavy, high volume, loads. The zippered compartment at the bottom adds capacity and allows wet or dirty gear its own space. Twin zipper slides keep contents, like a rain jacket, ready at a moment’s notice. There’s a sleeve inside, at the back of the pack, able to handle a laptop, a water bladder, or whatever other flat stuff you want to put back there. The buckled pocket on the front aids organization and provides another spot to stash necessities. Waxed canvas keeps the weather out and will last for years. The padded backstraps provide comfort, and the brass ring attachment system supports the pack and provides independent movement between back and pack.

The Summit Boulder Jct. is made of waxed canvas with solid brass hardware, and great leather in Duluth, Minnesota, at Frost River. It’s built to last and aimed to please. Thanks to Walter and the great staff and campers of Camp Manito-wish!!!

Upgrade your straps! Enhance your pack with our premium buckskin padded shoulder straps. Cut from the same burly bridle leather and built with the same care, attention to detail and cushy closed-cell foam as in our canoe and bushcraft packs, this is an upgrade in both style and function. Please note that upgrading to the buckskin straps may require us to spend extra time building your pack. All of our buckskin comes from real, wild deer hides, so each one is a little different and may show scars & evidence of life lived in the wilds of North America. They'll most definitely be worth the wait!

Purchased this pack to carry clothes for long weekend Jeep trips. It's a little smaller than I envisioned doesn't fit everything I would like in it. But it is an outstanding bag that works great for day trips. I find it to be very comfortable and easy to wear on all day hikes.

Excellent mid-size backpack. Beautiful, solid construction. I'll have to keep an eye on the leather that connects the shoulder straps to the top side of the pack, as it appears a bit narrow for the weight it will carry. No problems yet, though. Aside from that one slight detail (again, it has not caused a problem so far) I couldn't be happier. Great job, Frost River. I'd buy from you again.

    10 outta 10

My absolute favorite pack. I have a lot of high end bags and this one just makes sense. Can tighten down a bit for a day bag or expand for a weekend in the woods. The exterior pouch is perfect for things like gloves, headlamps, cordage and other thinks you may want fast access to. The bottom pouch hasn’t had much use yet for me but there are plenty of things that would ride nice in there like tarps or space blankets. If you are a wool blanket kinda person, you may wanna add the bedroll straps to your order. I have a queen size blanket that will take up most of the pack so I do need to strap that on the outside. Axes, saws and clothing fit just fine in the side straps. Overall the coolest, best looking and very traditional pack is perfect for me. I get a lot of comments. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks Frost River.

First pack I have bought from Frost Fiver and all of the reviews are not exaggerating the quality. This pack is large enough to fit everything I could think of and I still have a little bit of room left. I would have liked to seen bed roll lashings on the bottom however, i'm sure Frost River would add them if requested. Overall a great pack and I will be purchasing from them again!

Great Pack for Gear and as Carry On Luggage!

Posted by Steve J. on Jan 11th 2018

I bought this pack a few years ago because I needed a rugged bag that was weather proof for work. I work as a Forester and I need to have gear for differing conditions and a dry change of clothes. For what I wanted this pack for it works great. I have had it in thick brush where lesser bags have gotten totally destroyed. I have used this to carry dry gear on a boat in freezing rain. There was some rain that froze on the bag and made it very stiff, but its contents were dry!
I use this pack when I travel as my carry-on luggage. The airport that my first flight is on the small side and carry-on storage is pretty limited which means I usually have to check my luggage for my hour long flight. This last flight when I got my valet checked bag back, I noticed that the entire back side and side was wet. I figured it was snow or water due to it being winter, but upon closer inspection it looked and smelled like hydraulic fluid. I had to run to make my connecting flight and didn’t have much time to talk to anyone in baggage about it. I got to my next flight and used a napkin to soak any fluid up that I could, that helped a bit. I sat on my flight for 4 hours and then had to make my next flight. By the time I had gotten off of my last flight, the oil had soaked in and was nearly dry to the touch. The most amazing part was that there was little to no discoloration from the oil! I didn’t have time to check to see if the oil had soaked in at all on my clothes, I was more than surprised to see that there was no evidence of oil or discoloration on the interior of the pack. I thought this pack was going to a total loss and it looks as good ever, with a touch more character!

The attached photo, the left is about 3 hours after it was exposed to oil, the right is about 3 days later at my hotel.
