Frost River Carrier Review from David Hoole on Vimeo.

This full featured shoulder bag brings the messenger bag to a higher level. Borrowing elements from the Vintage pack, a pair of premium leather flapstraps go up and over the main flap of the bag. They hook into a solid brass post and offer speed with security like no other Frost River design. The 2” shoulder strap is attached directly to the bag and comes with a leather shoulder pad. The strap is adjustable and long enough to be worn across most chests. Built from waxed canvas, premium leather, and solid brass at our shop in Duluth, Minnesota. Available in Heritage Black as well as Field Tan, the Vintage Messengers let you choose which environment to blend in with, and which you'd like to carry with you. In Heritage Black, it's professional, sleek and understated. Heritage Black features all the same high quality materials as Field Tan, leather from Red Wing, MN, waxed canvas and solid brass hardware. It's built right from the start in Duluth, MN in solid black and antiqued solid brass. Here's a pack you'll enjoy for decades to come.

I absolutely love this bag. Holds everything I need from day to day or a quick weekend trip. Looks good in the office, in the field or on vacation. The craftsmanship is amazing and I can't wait to see how this bag ages.

    Beautiful and functional bag

Have been using my bag for the past few weeks for work and it looks and feels great. Has plenty of room and compartments. Strap is simple and comfortable. The only thing I wish it had was a zippered pocket to keep things more secure. The flap does a good job otherwise.

    Just buy it

I have had the Little Vintage messenger bag for about a month now. I use it to carry my lunch and other everyday essentials to work and back. I LOVE this bag. The construction is extremely durable, and despite its small size it can carry a lot of stuff. I carry in it; Nalgene water bottle 2 cans of soup 2 bananas (not joking) Torpedo level Channels locks 10" Multibit driver (piquic Dash 7) Headlamp and extra batteries Pens, pencils, 2 folding pocket knives, markers, and cords in the front panel organizer Large key ring Notebook (helps it keep perfectly square shape when its less full) 3 stuffed pencil organisers with first aid kit, masks, more cords, USB power bank, and drill bits. It can always hold more stuff. It gets a bit bulky with all that but its still comfortable and the leather shoulder strap is just right. I wish the leather straps that hold the OTHER leather straps for the quick release posts were shorter, they're honestly WAY too long even when I have XX pounds of stuff in there and extend the straps. You can tell in the Frost River Promo that showcases the normal sized Vintage Messenger that they're too long by the way the leather has curled upwards rather than staying straight with use. I will probably end up cutting them down, as they get broken in all the extra leather looks tacky and hangs a bit too far below the body of the bag. I just don't want to void my warranty by cutting them. I struggled choosing between the manitou and the normal carrier brief but I wanted the smaller size because I do carry the bag on my shoulder a LOT and I didnt want to carry around a bulky mostly empty bag. Honestly, now that I have one of their bags and I recognize the quality and craftsmanship (every stitch is just right) I will probably go ahead and pick up a second larger bag for different occasions. I'm happy I didn't get a Filson, this bag is exactly what I wanted (except the straps but that's just me being nitpicky). Also my customer service experience has been phenomenal, BUY IT.

    Classic and Durable

I bought the Vintage Messenger Bag in Field Tan. The bag had a minor issue, but the people of Frost River resolved the problem quickly and considerately in an act of great customer service (Thank you, Frost River)! All the components of this bag are pleasing, and made of materials of fine quality. The metal: No cheap sheet metal or nickel here, just SOLID brass. The shoulder strap’s adjusting glide-buckles are particularly appealing with their rounded edges. The leather: The oil-tanned leather from Red Wing appears to be full-grain from good hides. The leather adjusting straps are hearty and strong just like on Frost River’s packs. The leather panel with the Frost River brand insignia is cut and sewn cleanly and develops beautiful character with use. The Sam Browne Post and leather strap closure is an ingenious design. Opening and closing the bag (while wearing it) takes a little getting used to, but once the bag and straps are broken in, it’s so easy. The waxed canvas: 18oz canvas gives just the right weight for a pack or bag! The color of the canvas on my bag appears more olive green than tan, which I really dig. The double-canvas base of the bag provides peace-of-mind in its strength and feel. The design: The layout of the organizing panel up front right under the hood makes it easy to access smaller contents, while the voluminous interior can fit all I need for work, or a day of play. The bag’s wide shoulder strap with its broad leather pad distributes the weight of a full load so comfortably that walking/biking long distances doesn’t feel burdensome. By far this is the most comfortable (and most handsome) messenger bag I’ve used. All around, the Vintage Messenger bag’s timeless design and strong construction with lasting materials make this bag a keeper for ages!

    Excellent, Heavy Duty Messenger Bag

Posted by Jonathan Chapman on Jul 20th 2017

I received one of these messenger bags for Christmas 2016. I routinely destroy messenger bags as I use them to carry electronics and tools when on the road and in the field. Usually the first thing to go is the shoulder strap attachment or the bag closure. This one's solid. Additionally, the main section is divided into three sections which is nice for keeping items separated and easy to get to. The pockets on the outside of the main section are the right sizes for the small tools, folding rule, notebook, et c. that I regularly carry, and the flap cinches down tight enough to keep them from falling out, unlike most messenger bags. Overall, very happy, extremely rugged product, and it's survived longer than any of its predecessors.
